Christmas at Mattick's Farm - Pick up your copy of the Boulevard Magazine.

The fun of the holidays is right around the corner: family gatherings to plan, delicious meals to prepare, gifts to find and a house/condo or apartment to decorate — the list goes on.

With entertaining season approaching at warp speed, it’s time to get your home spruced up. Your time is precious around the holiday season, so to help make the most of your time, try these easy solutions to prepare for the holidays while keeping your sanity.
Festive lights: A simple way to decorate for the holidays year after year is with an artificial tree. For a formal dinner event, glowing white light sets a perfect ambiance. Switch to the multi-color option to delight the kids.
A touch of cheer: Use holiday decorations in unexpected ways to add festive cheer in every room of your home with minimal effort. Try hanging ornaments to decorate live plants, light fixtures, doorway overhangs, stairwells, mirrors and even the mantel.
Among the pines: Potted evergreen plants decorated with lights bring plenty of festive feelings into a room. The best news is that when spring arrives, you can plant them outside in your backyard, or donate them to a community project that needs evergreen trees. Using live plants infuses the room with light and good, clean oxygen, and it's the subtle touches your guests will appreciate and remember.
With these timely tips, you — and your home — will be ready for a holiday season of celebrations.

'I See Hope'

Victoria International Development Education Agency (VIDEA) was established as a non-profit organization in 1977 to 'inspire thought and action on global issues and is one of Canada's oldest education centres. Their promotion and delivery of global education is enhanced through establishing agency contracts with global partners, such as the Ukulapha community outreach project in South Africa. As an agency of the registered, non profit agency, VIDEA the project is continually monitored and evaluated and they are an integral part of supporting this international program.
Quietly but with direct and immediate results,

Ukulapha is reviving the philosophy of Ubuntu ('we are who we are because of who we all came from'). Ukulapha stands out as a grassroots, organic and humanitarian community outreach project in one of the poorest townships in South Africa.

The manager and founder, Carolyn Burns, is a former Victoria resident of 25 years. The outreach project is building a sense of hope with a focus on education! The needs are great, but the continued focus on enhancing educational opportunities is paying off! A new Resource Centre has been built with a library and computer lab. Now, the children will gain skills required to take their place in a fast changing world. The difficult task of rebuilding lives and taking responsibility for their new tomorrow has begun. Carolyn's passion and integrity to provide educational assistance to the children of Slangspruit is remarkable.

Ukulapha, with the support of VIDEA, is truly creating 'community connections for global change'.

Sunday's Snowflakes at Mattick's Farm

Each woman possesses their own individuality, femininity, and strength which contribute to their inner self. It is the "SELF" in every woman which is the key concept behind every banana blue design. Through this concept a unique balance of nature, culture and style is created, which represents not only an image, but a life attitude.

Ingrid Jarisz, Jawl Development and Newport Realty - Seaside Times

Ingrid Jarisz

Golden Connections by Doreen Marion Gee

This latest article on Ingrid Jarisz appeared in the Seaside Times and is a great testimony to the way she conducts business. Ingrid has been a fixture around Cordova Bay and especially Mattick’s Farm and we likes to share this great article on her. This is part of a rotating series of articles on members of Sidney Meet Up Women’s Networking Group, featuring women in business on the Saanich Peninsula, which have participated in events held here at Mattick’s Farm and the Cordova Bay Ridge Golf Course.

In today’s difficult times, people skills can be a career saver. A local real estate agent credits much of her success to her keen ability to forge caring connections and good relationships with others. In 2014, the “golden rule” has never been more important. Ingrid Jarisz’s impressive career began with her work as a legal assistant; eventually her expertise led to a career with Jawl Developments. As Executive Assistant, leading to Real Estate Sales Manager, Ingrid was involved in planning, rezoning, design drawings, project management, sale negotiations and contract underwriting. Ingrid is very proud of her involvement with the Sayward Hill project and the Selkirk Waterfront Development.

Two years ago, Ingrid became a real estate agent with Newport Realty, while still using her skills at Jawl Properties. Her record says it all: “On average, my listings have sold for over 96% of the asking price”. The financial downturn has affected the real estate world, increasing competition to get clients. To Ingrid, building relationships and making those golden connections gives her a definite edge. The very successful real estate professional is a networking wizard, with people skills polished to a shine. Ingrid has always been very active in getting community women together to help each other find opportunities and employment. “In my work, I really draw on the relationships that I have built over the years, “ reflects Ingrid. “Networking is super-important for me, not just the fact-to-face interactions but on social media as well. I am just ‘social by nature.” In these challenging times, “People are really going to be singling out the relationship side of doing business.

Clients are going to choose who gives them the best customer service! Gone are the days when you could stick a sign in the ground and sell a house.” Ingrid reveals her smart business sense: “I have to be creative and willing to come up with new ideas and think outside the box. It is competitive out there and I have to provide that extra level of customer service.” The Sidney Meet Up networking group has been a very helpful oasis for Ingrid: “Being involved with Sidney Meet Up has been fabulous!” Ingrid says the exposure and networking provided by Sidney Meet Up really jumps-starts the careers and lives of women on the Saanich Peninsula. One should treat as one would like others to treat oneself. Ingrid Jarisz knows the value of a smile and kind work in the business world.
